Itämeren vesikasvillisuuden peittoala Suomessa ja Ruotsissa kesällä 2019/ Coverage of aquatic vegetation in Finland and Sweden in the Baltic Sea in summer 2019.

[FI] Suomen ympäristökeskuksen ja Tukholman yliopiston Blue Carbon Habitats*-hankkeessa tuotettiin vuonna 2021 Suomen rannikolta sekä Ruotsin kahdelta pilottialueelta vesikasvillisuuden peittokartta, jolla pyritiin kartoittamaan ruovikoiden levinneisyyttä. Aineiston arvo 1 osoittaa kasvillisuutta, arvo 0 vettä ja 127 tulkinnan ulkopuolisia alueita (ns. nodata).

Aineisto perustuu Sentinel-2-satellittisarjan MSI-instrumentin havaintoihin heinäkuulta 2019. Kasvillisuusindeksiä (NDVI) ja havaintoalkion etäisyys rannasta ovat ennustavat muuttujat, joilla kasvillisuuden peittoa (ruovikot, kaislikot, makrofyyttinen vesikasvillisuus) arvioidaan. Satelliittiaineistoilta tulkinta tehdään 10 m erotuskyvyllä ja kohdistuen vain Itämeren rantavyöhykkeeseen. Aineiston pienin kartoitettu yksikkö koostuu viidestä havaintoalkiosta ja on siten viiden aarin kokoinen.

Aineisto kuuluu SYKEn avoimiin aineistoihin (CC BY 4.0). Aineisto perustuu S2 Global Mosaic -palvelusta ladattuihin kuukausittaisiin reflektanssiarvoihin Sentinel-2:n kanavilta 4 ja 8.

[EN] In 2021, the Blue Carbon Habitats* project of the Finnish Environment Institute and Stockholm University produced a land cover map of aquatic vegetation of the Finnish coast and two pilot areas in Sweden, with the aim of mapping the distribution of reed belts. The value 1 in the layer indicates vegetation, the value 0 water and 127 areas excluded from the interpretation (so-called nodata areas).

The data are based on observations from the Sentinel-2 satellite series MSI instrument from July 2019. The vegetation index (NDVI) and the distance of the observation cell from the shore are predictor variables used to estimate cover of aquatic vegetation (reeds, sedges, rushes, macrophytic aquatic vegetation). From the satellite data, the interpretation is made with a resolution of 10 m and only applies to the coastal zone of the Baltic Sea. The Mininum Mapped Unit (MMU) of the data consists of five observation cells and is thus the size of five ares.

The dataset is part of Syke's open data policy (CC BY 4.0). The data is based on monthly reflectance values from Sentinel-2 bands 4 and 8 downloaded from S2 Global Mosaic.

The full name of the project was: 'Blue Carbon Habitats - a comprehensive mapping of Nordic salt Marshes for estimating Blue Carbon storage potential - a pilot study,' and it was funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
